Manchester Township police responded to the crash near the intersection of county route 571 and Commonwealth Boulevard at around 7:20 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, the department announced on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

Officers found a red Ford Mustang and silver Mercedes-Benz CLK in the road with extensive front-end damage.

A black Kia Sportage was seen with extensive front-end damage on a nearby property of 1991 Ridgeway Road. Another SUV and a pickup were also found at that property with moderate damage.

Investigators said the Ford was making a left turn from county route 571 to Commonwealth Boulevard when it was hit by the Merceded-Benz and Kia. The Kia crashed into the unoccupied SUV and pickup that were parked at the Ridgeway Road property.

The Kia driver, a 45-year-old man from Toms River, was brought to Ocean University Medical Center and he's expected to survive his injuries. The Mercedes-Benz driver, a 56-year-old man from Manahawkin reported a minor injury but denied medical attention.

The Ford driver wasn't injured. Traffic was diverted while investigators and first responders were at the crash scene.

The investigation is ongoing but police said "an improper turn appears to be the primary contributing factor."
